
University of Science & Technology, Meghalaya (USTM)
is one of the fastest growing University in the entire North East India, sponsored by ERD Foundation, Guwahati. The University is being established in a picturesque landscape surrounded by tranquil greenery in Assam-Meghalaya border just one km from G S Road, Baridua, 9th mile, Ri-Bhoi District of Meghalaya. It is about 85 kms from Shillong, the Capital of Meghalaya & 6 kms from Dispur, the Capital of Assam. The campus is well connected by Rail & Air which is only 15 kms from Guwahati Railway Station & 35 kms from Guwahati International Airport.
The University has been established under the provisions of the University of Science and Technology, Meghalaya Act (No.6 of 2008) enacted by Legislative Assembly of Meghalaya and notified vide Gazette Notification No LL(B)87/2008/21, dated 02.12.2008 of Government of Meghalaya. The University is empowered by the University Grants Commission, to award degrees as specified by the UGC under section 22 of the UGC Act, 1956. USTM has also received necessary approval from AICTE, NCTE, Pharmacy Council of India & Bar Council of India to run MBA, B.Ed., B. Pharm/D. Pharm & LLB/BA LLB courses respectively.

USTM at a Glance
USTM is a dream-come-true project of its founder Mr. Mahbubul Hoque, a post-graduate alumni of computer science from Aligarh Muslim University, an outcome of his vision to empower society through education, to change lives of the people of North East through education. Mr. Mahbubul Hoque had started his educational entrepreneurial career with one computer and four students in February 2001. Presently, under his Chairmanship, ERD foundation which is the parent organization is running two CBSE affiliated Senior Secondary Schools, One Engineering College, One Law School, One B.Ed College, Two Pharmacy Colleges, One Business School, One Physiotherapy College, One Women’s College, Three Vision 50 Academy and one University – the USTM.
The university has been accredited “A” grade by NAAC in first cycle in the month of November 2021. The university has taken initiative to implement NEP 2020 by approving Academic Bank of Credit, MOOCs, multiple entry – exit scheme through its academic council meeting. MOUs have been initiated under Act East policy with universities and higher educational organization of neighboring countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh, Myanmar and Thailand.
At present, USTM is having enrollment of more 5000 students of which, nearly 1500+ students are availing free education. Nearly 90% of USTM’s total enrollment is that of rural students, with over 38% are tribal students and 57% are girl students.
